We travel down a dark staircase. Rubber bats on strings flap around. Lightning flashes! A sinister voice laughs in the darkness and then speaks, “Welcome to the Sanctum of Horror!”
This is the opening of a monster movie show in the 1960’s called, The Sanctum of Horror. It is produced at local station WPVI Channel 29 near Philadelphia, PA. It is hosted by Professor Mortis played by failed-ventriloquist-turned-failed-magician-turned-moderately-successful actor, CLIVE WENTWORTH.

The show’s fortune’s forever changed the night they do a remote shoot in a local cemetery. A hole is dug in the cemetery to accommodate a fake coffin and, unbeknownst to them, they have released something evil that has been long buried in the ground!
Because of recent financial difficulties Lady Lillian Sappington has decided to turn the historic Ravenswood Manor into a hunting lodge. But she must take care of one thing. The Manor is haunted. She invites her family and some eclectic friends to dinner to discuss some strange occurrences. Unbeknownst to them she has also invited Dr. Venko Karmazin, an expert on spirits.
During the evening the ghost of Lady Sappington’s late husband suddenly appears and utters only one word…“Murder.” He vanishes, leaving the guests to wonder what he meant. Perhaps he hadn’t accidently choked to death on a sausage roll. Was he poisoned? Could one of the assembled guests have done the deed? The discussion moves from mild insinuation to heated inquisition as they try to decipher the messages they continue to receive from the other side.
